MPI Drivers' Education
Overview
Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) and Assiniboine College are collaborating to expand access to driver training in Manitoba. The program will enhance road safety and support workforce development by providing affordable, accessible training in communities throughout the region.
This comprehensive program, offered to those over 18 years of age, provides both theoretical and practical instruction, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenge of driving. There is also an option for in-car training only.

Admissions
Admission Requirements
Drivers' Education (In-Class & In-Car)
- Must be 18 years or older
- Provide a copy of Government Issued ID
- Complete MPI Drivers' Education Registration Form and upload it to the online application
Drivers' Education (In-Car Only)
- Must be 18 years or older
- A valid 5L (Learners Permit) or valid Class 5 Stage A Licence
- Complete MPI Drivers' Education Registration Form and upload it to the online application

Tools & Supplies
The Drivers Handbook contains general information about safe and legal driving practices for the roads in Manitoba.
For specific information on traffic laws and regulations, please search the Government of Manitoba’s website for The Highway Traffic Act or The Drivers and Vehicles Act and regulations.
Courses & Costs
Drivers' Education (In-Class & In-Car)
16 hours in-class and 4 hours in-car training: $210 (GST Incl.). Training Includes:
- In-class theory
- In-car driving lessons with equipped fleet vehicles
- In-car road test prep
- Parallel parking
- Build driver's confidence
Drivers' Education (In-Car Only)
5 hours in-car training: $157.50 (GST Incl.). Training Includes:
- In-car driving lessons with an equipped fleet of vehicles
- In-car road test prep
- Parallel parking
- Build driver's confidence
Locations
Permanent Location - Brandon
Assiniboine has one permanent site in the province that offers MPI Drivers Education, located in Brandon, MB.
Classes start on the first Tuesday of each month, with applications closing one week prior. In-car training begins on the 1st and 15th of each month*
Rural Rotating Sites
In addition to a regular offering in Brandon, Assiniboine will be offering in-community training known as rural rotating sites. There are currently no rural rotating training sites available, but locations will be announced soon.

- In-Class: October 18 & 19 | 8 a.m. to 5p.m.

- Applications are open (Deadline: Oct 10, 2025)
*Once you have successfully completed your Knowledge Test and have met the medical and vision standards, you will have to obtain your Class 5L (Learners License). You can do this by visiting any Manitoba Public Insurance agent. This must be completed prior to any in-car sessions. Be sure to bring your valid Class 5L (Learners License) to your driving sessions.
