Assiniboine Community College will be presenting education counsellor Beverly Bunn with an honorary diploma later this month at this year’s Adult Collegiate graduation ceremony.

“Countless students have benefited from Beverly’s guidance and knowledge over the years,” said ACC President Mark Frison. “She is a proud Indigenous woman who is deeply respected by others as a counsellor, teacher and role model to youth. We’re pleased to be honouring her at graduation.”

Beverly Bunn is originally from White Bear First Nation. She is of the Ojibway and Cree Nation, but adopted into the Dakota Nation. She grew up in Birtle, Portage la Prairie, and Brandon residential schools from the age of six to eighteen.

She served in the Royal Canadian Navy for a number of years before starting her family of five sons and five daughters.  Bunn holds a Bachelor of Education from Brandon University. For the past 15 years, she has worked for the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council as an education counsellor.

“Beverly goes beyond just helping and supporting students,” said Cecil Roulette, Aboriginal Counsellor and Cultural Consultant at ACC. “She has aided them by lending a hand, giving them life skills and information to help improve their situation and always has a genuine concern and compassion for their wellbeing.”

Bunn will receive her honorary diploma at the Adult Collegiate graduation ceremony on Saturday, June 25 at the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church in Brandon beginning at 1:30 p.m.

ACC awards honorary diplomas to those who demonstrate excellence in their personal and professional accomplishments. The college has been awarding honorary diplomas since 2009.
