Make cakes too pretty to eat (but you'll still eat them)

Want your cake to stand out from the rest? Make people drool while they gaze at your awesome dessert-decorating skills!

Whether you're baking cakes for birthdays, weddings, retirements or maybe for Mother's Day (it's coming up!) good impressions start with how the cake is decorated.

It's easy to smooth some icing over a cake, but even the most delicious cake can be improved with a standout icing job. If you're looking for wow factor — for an I Can't Believe That Cake! reaction where people kind of feel bad about cutting into it — then you need to sign up for our Cake Decorating Basics course in Dauphin at the end of the month.

This five-hour course is spread over two nights, and you'll learn all the techniques you need to create creative cakes for all occasions.

You'll get your hands sweet and sticky as you learn to cut, fill and write on cakes, as well as how to create borders and roses from butter icing. From now on, your dessert cakes will have a personal, creative flair.

This is a great course to take with friends! Or try it as a date night.

Students of all ages can enjoy this class, and parents are welcome to sign up with a son or daughter for an evening activity they can do together.

Cake Decorating Basics is just $79, plus GST, per person. The course runs from 6:30–9 p.m. on Thursday, April 30 and Friday, May 1. You can sign up online, call 204.622.2222 or email parklandstudies@assiniboine.net to sign up (course number: COOK-0160).

Remember to bring an apron!
