Tree planting ceremony hosted at college's North Hill Campus

On Friday, September 12, the college welcomed students from four Brandon elementary schools along with local dignitaries and staff from Communities in Bloom and the Canadian National Railway for a tree planting ceremony.

The City of Brandon was a recipient of the Canadian National Railway EcoConnexions From the Ground Up grant totalling over $21,000. With this funding, the city's Community Services Department removed damaged trees from the centre median along 1st Street North. Crews are now planting 60 native species trees along this same stretch of road.

The ceremony was combined with an educational event for students from Linden Lanes, St. Augustine's, King George and Waverly Park at the college's sustainable greenhouse and grow plots on our North Hill Campus. Students were treated to composting workshops and greenhouse tours, followed by a ceremonial planting of a fruit tree. Fifteen fruit trees and shrubs will be planted outside our sustainable greenhouse for students in our Horticultural Production program.
