More than 100 students formally graduated from Assiniboine Community College at a ceremony at Credit Union Place in Dauphin today.

“We are thrilled that these students chose Assiniboine as the best way to invest in their futures through education and training. Today, we will all celebrate their achievements with family and friends,” said Assiniboine president Mark Frison. “Our graduates have developed specific, job-ready skills. More importantly, they are ready to contribute to the development and enhancement of their communities.”

The 108 graduating students represent 11 different certificate and diploma programs. These include Business Administration, Carpentry and Woodworking, Comprehensive Health Care Aide, Early Childhood Education Program Management, Mature Student High School and Applied Counselling Skills.

Twenty-one students graduated with distinction, meaning they achieved at least a 4.0 cumulative weighted grade point average during their studies.

The college has been developing its Parkland Campus in Dauphin into a regional partnership centre. It has also made the Practical Nursing program permanent at the Parkland Campus, with intakes every other September, beginning last fall.

“We want to expand Parkland Campus and offer even greater diversity in our program offerings for learners, while ensuring we are meeting the labour needs of the region,” said Gabe Mercier, director of Assiniboine’s Parkland Campus. “Our growth is part of fulfilling the college-wide goal of doubling our number of graduates by 2025.”

Student awards were presented during the Student Achievement Celebration dinner later in the day.

Next week, a graduation ceremony for students at the Victoria Avenue East and North Hill campuses will be held at the Keystone Centre in Brandon.
