Assiniboine Community College is co-hosting the Third Annual Weed Identification Clinic this week.

The clinic will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29 on the college’s North Hill campus.

The event is open to the public, at no cost and with no need to pre-register.

Tammy Jones, a weeds specialist from Manitoba Agriculture, will present some common agricultural weeds in the seedling stage, including scouting tips, family traits and cotyledon shape.

Her presentation will take place at the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts.

Participants will then have the opportunity to practise identifying a wide selection of weeds in the college’s Weed Garden, located beside the Sustainable Greenhouse

“All the weeds in the garden have signs identifying them. Proper identification is critical for anyone managing weeds in their lawn, garden, fields or roadsides and that’s where the Weed Garden comes in,” said agriculture instructor Danielle Tichit.

Enter from Lori Road and follow the signs. Rain date: May 30.

The Weed Identification Clinic is co-hosted by Manitoba Agriculture and the Manitoba Weed Supervisors Association.
