Position Overview:

As an Instructor in our Social Services Worker program within the School of Health & Human Services, you will play a key role in shaping the future of social services education. Reporting to the Chairperson or Program Coordinator, you will develop and deliver curriculum, assess student performance, and participate in a range of administrative duties. Additionally, you will contribute to college promotion, student recruitment, placement support, and foster relationships with industry partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading students to an understanding of their role in the social service setting, supporting them to integrate their theoretical knowledge with individual clients and community programs.
  • Instruct students in a classroom, laboratory or shop situation, and provide academic assistance during consultation hours.
  • Modify and/or develop course objectives, course outlines, curricula and evaluation procedures and instruments.
  • Identify, prepare and organize course materials and learning resources for course delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain all course-related records including evaluation, attendance records, and submit information as required.
  • Maintain classroom, shop and laboratory discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to supervisor regarding student behaviour, including formal student disciplinary action.
  • Counsel students with respect to academic progress and subject matters and assist them in obtaining appropriate counselling for personal concerns.
  • Facilitate and maintain a creative and positive learning environment which provides the opportunity for meaningful learning that is culturally appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree in Social Work preferred
  • Relevant and diverse experiences in social services, and a strong foundation of related knowledge to support student success (a combination of relevant post-secondary education and experience may be considered)
  • Strong understanding of Indigenous cultures or have experience working with Indigenous organizations/communities.
  • Curriculum development and experience teaching in an adult setting would be an asset.
