Information for Parents & Sponsors

Dear Parents and Sponsors,

We care deeply about student safety, health, and well-being.

Decisions made at Assiniboine have been consistent with public health advice, the Province’s recommendations for educational institutions, and to support our provincial health care system. We do not make decisions such as these lightly, and we recognize that the current environment presents feelings of uncertainty to our college community. This pandemic is forcing each of us to make sacrifices and changes.

What is the college doing on campus in response to COVID-19?

The college has responded to the ongoing pandemic environment with many changes to our physical environments and entrance procedures before coming on campus. This is all in an effort to keep students, staff, and the public safe and healthy.

You can learn more about the college's response to COVID-19 on our Campus Access & Safety page.

What does academic year look like at Assiniboine? Are classes on campus or online?

The majority of our programs began in the fall of 2021 in a structured in a blended delivery model, meaning programs had a combination of in-person, on campus activities and others that are delivered remotely.

As the public health environment continues to change, we continue to resume more fully back to face-to-face, on campus environments.

'Learn by Doing’ is a central philosophy at Assiniboine and we will continue to make every effort to provide hands-on learning opportunities in safe environments for everyone.

Advice on supporting students as they complete their studies

There are things you can do to support your student to complete their studies and end strong.

Understand that students need:

  • A quiet place and some time to study, complete assignments, and communicate with instructors or classmates.
  • Access to technology in the home, or at a safe place provided for by a sponsor, such as a Band Office.
  • Encouragement to stay focused for just a little longer to complete and wrap up their course requirements.
  • Friendly reminder to check official college communication through their myACC email account.

College supports for students is described on our Keep Learning webpage.

On behalf of the college and larger community, thank you for trust in Assiniboine Community College, and your support of students during this time. Please continue to check our COVID-19 specific webpages, which are being updated continually with new information.
