Assiniboine College has announced it will offer a rural rotating Comprehensive Health Care Aide (CHCA) program in Selkirk, Manitoba. Registration is now open for the program, which will start on April 15.

“Our rural rotating training sites are integral to our work to address the growing needs in healthcare,” said Suzanne Nicolas, Dean of the School of Nursing at Assiniboine. “These sites also help keep learners in these communities to close the labour gaps all across the province. We look forward to bringing this healthcare opportunity to Selkirk and area students, and the Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority.”

Assiniboine College is encouraging community members, future students and families to join the college at an information session for the program on March 19th at 6:00 p.m. College and Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority staff will be available to answer any questions you may have, take students through the admission requirements, financial aid opportunities, and learning support services.

Our six-month Comprehensive Health Care Aide program (nine-months for international students) prepares graduates to care for patients in a clinical setting. Health Care Aides assist nurses, hospital staff and physicians in the basic care of patients. They help patients with their well-being and assist in managing their health care environment, such as meal and mobility assistance, and observation and reporting of patient conditions.

“This is a welcomed and valuable opportunity for residents of this area to attain education that contributes to caring for people with health needs,” says Marion Ellis chief executive officer of Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority “Thank you to Assiniboine Community College for your genuine partnership with communities and the health care system.”
