Assiniboine's first-ever Game Design Summer Camp is aimed at youth, ages 14-17, who dream about a career in the video game industry. The college has partnered with New Media Manitoba to give participants the chance to learn the basics of programming, develop animations and unravel some of the mysteries behind game design from an established indie developer and experienced Interactive Media Arts instructor.
When: August 20 - 24, 2018 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. daily
Where: Victoria Avenue East campus | Brandon, MB

Dylan Fries is a freelance game developer, entrepreneur, computer programmer, and artist. He is the founder of Peg Jam and has run over a dozen game jams in Winnipeg in association with New Media Manitoba. He also runs the Winnipeg Game Collective with Daniel Voth and has spoken on dozens of topics related to game development and entrepreneurship. His interests include simulating ecosystems, artificial intelligence, spending time outdoors and digital painting.
Derek Ford has been sharing his passion for digital arts as an instructor at Assiniboine for over 15 years. Creative and committed, Derek is an educator with experience and enthusiasm in delivering training within the interactive industry. He enjoys sharing his skills that include 3D design and animation, VR development, motion graphics, graphic design, and photography.
August 10; however, a limited number of spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Students must be between the ages of 14 and 17 years old
- Interest in game development, computer programming or digital art (2D or 3D)
- No experience necessary, but enthusiasm is a must
