  • What is the average wage?

    Education assistants can earn from $13.00 to $20.00 per hour with the median wage being $18. The actual wage will vary from one school division to another. If you want to work in a particular school division, call them directly to see what the hourly rate is.

  • Does this program have a work practicum?

    This program has a two week work practicum component.

  • What are some examples of career possibilities with this program?

    Educational Assistants are hired in schools and school divisions to support the work of professional staff such as teachers and clinicians. Educational assistants are valued members of the school community and make a significant contribution to the work of the school and toward the education of the students. Day-to-day activities are directed by the principal, teacher or other professionals under whose supervision they work.



  • What are the class sizes?

    Up to 20 students are accepted into the program.

  • Do I require any special clothing or equipment?

    Students are expected to dress according to the workplace environment but no special clothing or equipment is required.

  • Do I have to have any immunizations?

    Not at this point, but check with your potential place of employment to see what their current policy is.

  • What other things will I need to have to be successful at this program?

    • Education assistants need to be able to perform the functions of the job, including lifting, bending, kneeling, and using other body mechanics
    • Applicants must have current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Level C 
    • A Criminal Record Check (within the last six months)
    • Child Abuse Registry check (within the last six months)
  • Why do I need to have a current criminal record check and Child Abuse Registry check while I am taking the program?

    Applicants will be required to obtain a criminal and child abuse registry check before the practicum portion of the program.

    Applicants with a criminal record or who are listed on the Child Abuse Registry should contact the chairperson of Human Services programs. Under some circumstances, a school division may not allow you to complete the practicum placements at their respective schools.
