The Police Studies program is an innovative and intensive eight-month certificate program that is the first of its kind in Manitoba. Assiniboine has successfully developed strong relationships and partnerships with Brandon Police Service, Manitoba Justice, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Aboriginal Police services to develop the professional program you’re looking for.

Why choose Police Studies?

This intensive eight-month certificate program is the first of its kind in Manitoba and is offered in partnership with the Brandon Police Service. Assiniboine is the only Canadian post-secondary institution to offer a police studies program administered by the Ministry of Advanced Education and one that is recognized by the Department of Justice. Gain knowledge from instructors who continue to work in industry.

Learn how to embrace the lifestyle that comes with becoming a protective services officer. Stress management, mental health first aid and cross-cultural teachings are integrated so you gain the skills needed to thrive in this high-impact industry.

Tackle problems through group work that helps you develop communication skills, emotional intelligence and critical thinking. Your realistic scenario training will include investigating crime scenes, identifying and seizing evidence, and conducting both interviews and interrogations. Get out of the classroom with morning physical training, scenario training and community volunteer activities.

Launch your career in one of the many areas of public safety, including municipal, regional, provincial or Indigenous police services. Graduates may also find employment in corrections, sheriff’s offices, border services, risk management and loss prevention.
