Rotating Sites - FAQs

Where are the upcoming rural rotating sites for the Practical Nursing program?

  • Portage la Prairie (September 2018 start -  has been filled)
  • Russell (January 2019 start - see below)

There will be 25 seats available in these locations.

When can I apply for the Russell intake, which starts January 2019?

Applications for the 25-seat program in Russell will be accepted from August 20 - September 7, 2018.

Applications that are postmarked during this three-week period will be treated equally in a lottery system (given the same odds in a random draw), however those applicants living in a rural community within a 100-kilometre radius of Russell will be given preference in the first lottery draw.

How does the lottery application process work?

A lottery application process means that all complete applications will be entered into random draw to select those admitted into the program.

Those wishing to study in the program must mail in their application to the college’s Victoria Avenue East Campus or drop off their application in person during the application window as stated above.

Applicants living with a 100-kilometre radius of the community rural Practical Nursing site will receive preference, meaning that they will be included in the first random draw. Those applicants who do not live in a rural community or live outside the 100 km radius  will be placed in the random draw selection process following those applicants within the catchment area for that particular rural rotating site.

There is no difference in preference given to those who apply by mail or in person at the college’s Victoria Avenue East campus during any of the application window. Applications must be complete to be entered into the draw.

Please refer to the Program Application Checklist for all admission requirements.

Where do I send my complete application?

Your complete application can be sent to the following address during the appropriate application dates stated previously.

Registrar's Office
Assiniboine Community College
1430 Victoria Avenue East
Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2A9

Please note: we do not accept faxed or emailed applications.

Applications postmarked with a date inside of the identified three-week application window will be accepted.

What does a complete application consist of?

Please refer to the Program Application Checklist for all admission requirements.

When will the college notify successful applicants of their enrolment into the program?

After the application windows close for the rural rotating site, the college will conduct the random draw to select those who will be admitted into the program. Applications must be complete to be entered into the draw.

For Russell (January 2019 start)

  • Applications accepted between August 20 - September 7, 2018
  • All applicants will be notified by mail after September 24, 2018.

If I end up on a waitlist for one of the sites, can I ask to be transferred to another location?

No. If you wish to apply for the Practical Nursing program offered at a different location, you must submit a new application following the required process with the admissions dates for that particular site. A new application fee will also be required.

If I’m not selected to fill one of the 25 seats, will I be placed on a waitlist?

Yes, a waitlist will be maintained until the program starts.
