The Comprehensive Health Care Aide (CHCA) program is an additional 6 months after the completion of your compulsory high school credits. You'll graduate ready to work in the health care field with the practical skills needed to have a rewarding career as a Health Care Aide. Every September, November, January and April the Adult Collegiate in Brandon starts a new quarter.
Flexible programming allows you to choose a schedule that fits your needs. You will have the option to choose the day or evening program in a small class environment, with focused one on one instructor attention.
To graduate with a Mature Student High School Diploma, you must be 19 years of age either on enrollment or before the completion of your Mature High School and earn a total of eight credits, four of which must be at the Grade 12 level. Grade 12 English Language Arts and Grade 12 Mathematics are required credits. You also must have been out of school 6 months or more before enrollment. To graduate with a Comprehensive Health Care Aide certificate, you must successfully complete 27 academic credits and six practical credits.
Graduates of this program can continue their education at Assiniboine in the Practical Nursing program. Students admitted to this program are eligible to receive a block credit transfer equivalent to 15 academic credits.
The only fees charged for Mature Student High School courses are materials fees, which are $10.50 per full (one-credit) course, and Students’ Association fees, which are $25.70 per full (one-credit) course. Tuition, laboratory, materials, student services and Students’ Association fees for the Comprehensive Health Care Aide portion of the program total approximately $1130.
