Overview

Specifically designed for those wishing to teach English language programs, this program will provide you with the tools, strategies, skills and knowledge needed to be a successful teacher either in Canada or abroad.

The TESOL Teacher Training course gives you practical, hands-on experience blended with online learning. You will apply and develop the teaching techniques taught in the classwork through in-class teaching demonstrations, extensive feedback and an on-site practicum.

The number of TESOL opportunities continue to increase as the use of English as the primary language used in business, science and technology spreads globally. There are opportunities worldwide in private language schools, elementary, secondary schools and post-secondary education.

This course places a strong emphasis on practical teaching skills and uses a blend of online and in class work along with group work and teaching demonstrations, as well as class and online discussions.

    Admissions

    • A complete Manitoba Grade 12 or equivalent

    • English is the language of instruction at ACC. All applicants educated outside of Canada or in a country not on the test exempt list are expected to meet the English language proficiency requirement. See our ELP page for more information.

    English Language Proficiency English is the language of instruction at ACC. Applicants should have a university degree from an English-speaking university. The program will accept applicants without a university degree; however, these applicants will not receive TESL Canada certification until completing a university degree.

    All applicants educated outside of Canada will be required to have a minimum score of 7 in each IELTS skill category in order to receive the ACE TESL Canada Certificate.

    Applicants with an undergraduate degree may seek interim and permanent certification with TESL Canada.

    International: 

    There are many opportunities to teach English overseas in public or private programs. Traditionally, Japan and Korea have been key markets for English Language teachers, however, there are new emerging markets in Taiwan, China, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe.

    Tools & Supplies

    Textbooks, supplies and uniforms for all of our programs and courses may be purchased at the Assiniboine Bookstore at the Victoria Avenue East Campus, which is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the Assiniboine Bookstore’s website to learn more. A course pack will be provided in class that is included in the cost of tuition.  There is also one textbook that is required.

    Courses & Costs

    To graduate with a TESOL Certificate you must successfully complete 7.5 credits. To be eligible for an ACE TESL Canada Certificate, students must complete the 75-hour training course as well as a 20-hour practicum.
