Prep Courses for New and Returning Students

Are you looking to improve your math and/or computer skills? Want to gain more confidence before heading to college this fall?

If you have struggled in math or computers or just don’t feel as prepared as you should be, sign up for one of Assiniboine’s prep courses. These short courses will have you feeling more confident in no time! We have options for both new and returning students.

These courses are taught using a blended model of both in-person and online instruction. Registered students will receive a detailed course schedule that outlines when they need to be on campus and when the class will be online. Students must have access to the internet and a computing device (preferably a laptop or a desktop). If you do not have these please let us know and we will assist you.

Complete the quiz and mark it yourself; here is the answer key. If you score lower than 75% on this quiz, we would suggest you register for Assiniboine’s Math Prep for Year 1 course.

Computers for College (COMP-0612)

Start Date: May 10 to 21, 2021

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Cost: $99 + GST

Location: Victoria Avenue East campus

Computers for College (COMP-0612) Computer skills are essential in today’s work, social and school life. In this course, students learn computer essentials such as utilizing email, introduction to file management and Moodle, creating and formatting documents in Microsoft Word, as well as a basic understanding of PowerPoint and Excel. This course is taught in a blended format with both face to face and online components


Start Date: August 3 to 13, 2021

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Cost: $99 + GST

Math Prep for Year 1 (MATH-0110)

Start Date: August 3 to 20, 2021,

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Cost: $149 + GST

Location: Victoria Avenue East campus

Brush up on your math skills. Start with basic math exercises, including fractions, decimals, and word problems. From there, focus on the specific math encountered in the college program you’re entering. Sample tests and assessments will give you insight on the concepts that give you the most difficulty so you may focus on these areas with support from an instructor. This course is taught in a blended format with both face to face and online components.

I am going into my…SECOND YEAR:

Math Prep for Year 2 (MATH-0117)

Start Date: May 10 to 28, 2021

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Cost: $149 + GST

Location: Victoria Avenue East campus

This course prepares returning students for success in the math courses in year two of Assiniboine’s diploma programs. The course will review concepts from the year one math courses and preview concepts in the year two courses. This course is taught in a blended format with both face to face and online components.
