Improve Your Skillset One Course At A Time
Continuing Studies at Assiniboine offers a variety of courses that can help you upskill in your current role or offer you personal skill development and enrichment.
Courses through Continuing Studies at Assiniboine are divided into two categories:
Independent or One-Off Courses
Some courses that Continuing Studies offers are one-off, meaning you take a single course and it doesn’t have ties to other programming at the college. Conversational Spanish or Quickbooks are examples of this type of offering.
Program Courses
Continuing Studies also offers some courses, which are part of a larger program, that can be taken independently. Courses available in this format allow you the greatest flexibility. You can take one, some, or all, within a given program. If you take more than one course within the program’s total course list (i.e. more than one course that makes up the program), you will eventually become eligible for an official parchment, such as a certificate or document of achievement, as long as you finish all courses within the program. Woodworking 1, which is part of the Woodworking program, is an example of this type of course. You may take Woodworking 1 without taking the entire Woodworking program. However, if you were to take all courses within the Woodworking program, you would graduate with a document of achievement.
Some continuing studies courses that are part of larger programs, for example Administrative Assistant or Prairie Horticulture, are not eligible to be taken individually. Instead, you must apply to the entire program and complete all required courses.
The simplest way to explore what continuing studies courses are currently being offered is to view the latest edition of our eGuide. Each section of the guide (e.g. Working in Business) contains a list of available courses; click on the icon beside the course name to directly register. Some courses require that you fill out a registration form; other courses ask you to register online.
