FAQ
Where is Assiniboine located?
Assiniboine has campuses across Manitoba, including Brandon, Winnipeg and Dauphin.
Our Victoria Avenue East and North Hill campuses, both located in Brandon, offer access to state-of-the-art learning spaces such as a contemporary teaching kitchen for Culinary Arts students, a sustainable green house for food production students, soil and growth chamber labs for agriculture and environment students, and an interactive HOLO suite for nursing students. PC and Mac labs, libraries, and cafeterias are also located at these campuses. There is also a partnership with Brandon University to offer one-person dorm rooms in their on-campus residence.
Ideally placed in the central location of Dauphin, our Parkland campus serves communities across the region. We welcome full- and part-time students to this vibrant campus that features a contemporary trades shop, health care training lab, enhanced student lounge and early learning centre.
The Winnipeg campus, situated in the province’s capital city, offers Assiniboine’s Practical Nursing program and various Continuing Studies courses.
What types of programming does Assiniboine offer?
Assiniboine offers more than 50 certificate, diploma and post-graduate programs that prepare graduates to be ready to step into careers with the confidence and skills to succeed. Certificates are programs that typically take less than one year to complete, and diplomas are two-year programs. Advanced diplomas require a prior post-secondary credential and generally take eight months or less to complete.
Assiniboine also offers adult learning and upgrading. Open the door to a world of careers by upgrading your skills, completing your high school diploma, or entering into one of our integrated programs. We offer several courses that are integrated with a college program, meaning you earn your high school diploma and a college certificate at the same time!
Take courses to suit your schedule! We have both day and evening classes and two intakes a year at our Adult Collegiate in downtown Brandon and at our Parkland campus in Dauphin.
A personalized education plan is developed individually with each student to address your specific needs and future goals.

How can I afford College?
Don’t let the cost of education hold you back. Everyone should consider applying for financial aid—chances are you’re eligible for some support. You can receive funding from more than one source, including scholarships and bursaries, government financial aid, and other funding opportunities.
Approximately $300,000 in scholarships and awards is available to Assiniboine students each year. This includes entrance awards for first-year students, as well as bridging awards for second-year students. To find and apply for scholarships and bursaries, and for applicable deadlines and timelines, please visit our Financial Aid and Awards page and use our online awards search tool.
In addition to our Financial Aid & Awards session during this year’s Virtual Open House, we offer an online, 45-minute information session on Financial Aid & Awards throughout the year. This session will help you explore the various funding options available to you. To view the upcoming schedule and register, click here.
What student supports do you offer?
Assiniboine helps students achieve success by providing guidance, support, and assistance wherever needed. We strive to provide a warm and friendly environment where students feel comfortable raising questions or concerns.
Student success advisors are available at all campuses. Their goal is to help students achieve success at Assiniboine by listening, providing information, and assisting in finding solutions to problems, or to refer to an appropriate agency or business service.
Our Learning Curve’s learning strategists and educational assistants support you to find effective ways of learning. We encourage active learning and collaborate with you to find strategies that make sense in your life. We provide referrals to student success advisors, the library and other resources as you work towards meeting your academic goals.
Do you have Indigenous-specific supports?
Yes, the Indigenous Affairs team at Assiniboine offers a wide-range of support and services to assist students along their post-secondary journey. They aim to provide guidance to First Nation, Métis and Inuit students from a holistic perspective to support their academic goals. A resource for all students and faculty, Indigenous Affairs supports the college community in its efforts to acquire a true understanding of Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing.
Assiniboine Cultural Centres provide comfortable, welcoming environments for students to relax and mingle. Individuals from all cultural backgrounds are welcome. It is an ideal place to visit with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, the Indigenous Affairs team and fellow students, study, or relax between or after classes. Check the bulletin boards in the centres or Indigenous Affairs Facebook group for upcoming community and college events.
Visiting Elders and Knowledge Keepers are available at all Brandon campuses for traditional knowledge and teachings. Meeting with an Elder may be as informal as a casual visit or can include cultural or spiritual teachings and guidance at your request.
The Indigenous Peer Mentoring Program pairs new and returning Indigenous students to meet for a few hours each month to support positive connections and student success. Participate in activities such as one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, cultural events, study groups and sharing circles. Meet new people, navigate and access college and community supports, build communication and relationship skills, and help other students embrace their culture.
