Electrical Technologist/Technician

Overview

Tundra has an opportunity for an Electrical Technician/Technologist to be based out of the Virden, Manitoba or Estevan, Saskatchewan area. This role is primarily field based with occasional office work required.

This scope of this position includes electrical construction supervision, crew management, construction design to provide Electrical support to all Business Development Teams to ensure that all Tundra electrical infrastructure is designed and installed in a safe, environmentally friendly, timely, and cost-efficient manner to maximize production and minimize operating costs.

Reporting to the Electrical Coordinator the Electrical Technician/Technologist is responsible to:
• Project Management duties:
o Assess electrical needs for all capital projects.
o Develop electrical plans, designs, drawings, and project schedules to support capital projects.
o Define project goals and milestones.
o Assess/define project risks and economics.
o Oversee all electrical project costs including building cost estimates, completion within budget and justification for extra budget funding where necessary.
o Outsource engineering assistance and project management as necessary.
o Direct the Construction Team to ensure field work is conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner, ensuring adequate Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
o Attend project sites as necessary.
• Assess and propose solutions to Electrical Operating Facility concerns brought forward by Operations.
• Liaison with the outside vendors and Procurement Department to acquire equipment as per outlined specifications.
• Attend Facilities & Construction Team meetings to review the ongoing and upcoming construction projects within the team. Share any experiences or learnings that may help other members of the Team in their current or future work.
• Perform regular property inspections of facilities to ensure all facilities are up to code and compliant with applicable codes and regulations.
• Schedule and coordinate all oil well construction, including new Service installations, motor and instrument wiring, and heat trace installations.
• Keep current with ongoing industry changes and new technology and communicate them accordingly.
• Duties may also include:
o VFD (variable frequency drive) set up and commissioning.
o Prepare Load Calculations and Service Sizing
o Prepare Single line drawings
o Prepare Area Class drawings
o Underground cable installation schedules/drawings
o Cable Schedule and Voltage Drop calculations
o Ensure all facilities have a Power System Study. Supply all information to EPCM (engineering procurement construction management) as needed.
o Correcting/Planning Trip settings on breakers
o Updating electrical drawing packages for existing locations
o Sizing harmonic filters
o ESP (electrical submersible pump) equipment sizing
o Service calculations for new or modified installations
o Work with provincial power companies to solve ongoing concerns and/or plan for upcoming projects
o Prepare bill of materials & drawing packages for bid jobs
o Provide contractors with wiring methods on new installations/upgrades

Qualifications

Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
• Engineering Tech diploma or Interprovincial Journeyman - Electrical (Red Seal) is required.
• Electrical Engineer or Electrical EIT is not required but would be considered an asset.
• Minimum 2-3 years of Electrical work experience in Oilfield is required.
• Oilfield Production and Operations knowledge is required.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Understanding of and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings – SLD, PFD, P&ID’s, Isometrics, plot plans, surveys, & Area Class.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential.
• Knowledge of Manitoba Electrical Code and Saskatchewan Electrical Code
• Knowledge of, and willingness to achieve certification in
o H2S Alive and First Aid & CPR safety training.
o Ground Disturbance Level II.
o TDG
o WHMIS
o Defensive driving
o Arch flash training
o CSA electrical code, CEC Code, CSA Z462, CSA Z463.
• Other area’s considered an asset:
o Project Management skills
o Prior experience in Auto Cad or Bluebeam training
o Knowledge of electrical switchgear, breakers, maintenance and repair.
o Knowledge of PLC’s and HMI’s with ability to read programming code is consider an asset.
