The Protein Pantry is a meat retail shop on campus that helps to facilitate student learning in the areas of animal proteins processing and retail meat cutting. We welcome students, staff, and the broader community to visit the shop and purchase cuts of meat during hours of operation.

Notice: Please note there will be a limit of 1 customer in the Protein Pantry at one time and customers will be required to sanitize their hands upon entry of the store. Physical distancing protocols will be followed where possible and masks will be worn by Protein Pantry servers.

What type of meat products are for sale inside the shop?
The types of meats available varies depending on curriculum, but may include: pork, beef, lamb, poultry, fish, and goat. The Protein Pantry also offers a full range of "value added" products including stuffed pork chops, stuffed pork tenderloin, sausages, jerky, and marinated meats.
What type of payment is accepted?
All types of cards are accepted. We do not accept cash. Gift certificates are available for purchase, as well.
Why does the college have this space on campus?
The Protein Pantry is part of the $1.6 million Food Processing Centre, which opened in November, 2019. This facility hosts students of the Food Processing (Animal Proteins) program. This space was generously supported with a combined $1.165 million from the Government of Canada, Province of Manitoba, Maple Leaf Foods, HyLife Foods, Manitoba Pork, UFCW Local 832, and the Brandon Hog and Livestock Show.
Can anyone shop at the Protein Pantry?
Yes! Members of the public are welcome to stop by during store hours to see what’s available for sale.
Do college students or staff receive a discount on items?
No, everyone pays the sticker price on products.
Where do I park if I’m planning to shop at the Protein Pantry?
You may park in designated visitor parking areas. Please note that while parking in these zones is currently free, there may be a charge for parking in visitor spots in the future.
How did you come up with the name The Protein Pantry?
In late 2019, the college ran a contest to ask the community to propose a name for the retail shop. The winning entry came from Wanda Cameron of Boissevain!

Can I call ahead to reserve cuts of meat or make special requests?
No, we are unable to accommodate specific requests or place any items on hold. All products are sold on a first-come-first-serve basis.
