Overview

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The purpose of a camp nurse is to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all campers and staff by providing medical care, managing medications, responding to injuries or illnesses, and supporting a safe and inclusive camp environment. Our nurses help campers and team members stay healthy and comfortable so everyone can fully enjoy their camp experience with confidence and peace of mind. The camp nurse is on site 24 hours a day while campers are present, providing continuous support and guidance throughout the week.

WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
• The camp nurse has final responsibility for all medical care and first aid decisions for all campers and staff
• You will control, document and administer all prescription medications to campers
• Using your judgment, administer any PRN medications that has been approved by caregivers and document all PRN medications given
• Make decisions on whether further medical attention is required (i.e. going to the hospital or a call to their physician)
• Do daily checks on personal care charts in the cabins, and provide feedback to counselors regarding personal care
• Provide 1:1 support for campers when and where required (i.e. illness)
• Facilitate the personal care sessions during the summer staff orientation
• Prepare first aid kits for around the facility and complete restock as needed
• Maintain an inventory of medical supplies and let coordinator know if anything needs to be replenished
• Rotating on-call overnight shifts
• Assist in cabin activities as much as possible, providing an enthusiastic and uplifting atmosphere
• Provide campers with emotional support to encourage a positive outlook, while building and maintaining strong relationships
• Recognize and support each camper’s specific needs, providing the best possible physical and emotional care while assisting in behavior management when applicable
• Prep for campers by completing important conditions, medications or any other relevant information that needs to be passed on

QUALIFICATIONS
• Successfully completed the 3rd or 4th year of the registered nursing program
• Enthusiasm for camp, creativity, and making each day fun and meaningful
• Current Standard First Aid Level C CPR and AED or BLS certification valid for the entire work term
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently set priorities
• Ability to provide personal care, support behavior management, and lead activities
• Responsible, reliable, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrates empathy, patience, and a caring attitude
• Eager to jump in, be silly, dress up, and take part in camp fun such as going into the dunk tank
• Knowing ASL is an asset
• Experience with personal care is an asset
• Clinical judgement is an asses
• 600 hours of required hours towards an Undergraduate Nursing degree
