Chief Operating Officer, Mental Health and Addictions

Overview

On behalf of our client, Manitoba Shared Health, we are seeking a Chief Operating Officer, Mental Health and Addictions. The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mental Health and Addictions, a new role, will provide strategic leadership to an integrated, province-wide delivery of mental health and addictions services through Shared Health and its provincial service delivery partner organizations. Working with senior leaders across the health system and through a multi-disciplinary provincial team, the COO will establish systems, processes and standards to ensure services are integrated across partner organizations through clear care pathways and achievement of service area commitments for patient care.

The COO will create a structure for an integrated provincial service that includes all of the province’s acute mental health and addictions resources together with services provided through service partners and community services organizations in the health system. The COO will also be directly responsible for certain provincial mental health and addiction services that will be provided through Shared Health, such as the programs and services currently provided by the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba and Selkirk Mental Health Centre.

The COO will participate in the provincial Mental Health and Addictions Clinical Network that oversees provincial clinical planning and standard setting. The COO will also support government leadership in aligning mental health and addictions strategies across sectors outside of the health system. Once completed, the overall MH&A service will have a budget of $125 million and 1400 plus staff across Shared Health and its partner organizations. The COO Mental Health and Addictions will create and sustain a high performance organization, based on a commitment to high quality care, the needs of the patient, continuous improvement and accountability.

The Chief Operating Officer Mental Health and Addictions is a new and critical position in Manitoba’s health care transformation and requires strong leadership skills and the ability to develop and maintain a high-performance environment. The ideal candidate will bring to this role a relevant, advanced degree and experience working with in mental health and addictions systems , complemented by a minimum of 10 years senior leadership experience complex, geographically disbursed health care system. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience building and leading high performance, cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams in a shared service environment.
