Network Analyst

Based in Brandon and reporting to the Team Lead, Network Services, Network Analysts have a primary responsibility for the design, implementation, and operation of both the core and access networks and are expected to have a highly functional understanding of all protocols and standards that are in use on Westman’s network.

Network Analysts are expected to have appropriate monitoring in place and analyze the gathered data, as well as logs, in order to ensure that the network is operating properly and efficiently. The analyst will also be expected to make recommendations for improvements to the network requiring the incumbent to conduct research and evaluate different products and/or technologies and recommend purchases of equipment and/or systems.

Key Responsibilities
• Maintain proper operation and performance of all internet and data services delivery systems including all routers, switches and network components (transport systems)
• Design configuration templating and orchestration system for network elements with goals to make the operation of the network, adds/moves/changes, accessible to team members who don’t have a networking focus, reduce configuration errors that result in outages or poor performance, and increase consistency between network elements
• Identify and recommend changes to improve performance, security, and reliability
• Plan and coordinate all changes to systems and services according to established change management procedures
• Ensure all systems have automated monitoring that can identify problems; resolve all trouble reports from monitoring systems in accordance with the operations Service Level Objectives
• Provide training to team members covering a high-level overview of the operations of your systems as well as day-to-day operational matters
• Evaluate and recommend new hardware and software, providing information on technical requirements and cost elements for further analysis
• Plan and provide recommendations for regularly required upgrades to all network elements
• Give technical presentations to existing and prospective customer as required
• Consult with users and evaluate requirements, recommend designs, provide cost analyses, plan projects, and coordinate tasks for installation of data networks

Qualifications

Qualifications
• 2 years experience in a network services field including hands-on internet and networking experience
• Computer Systems technology diploma; Electronic Technology diploma or equivalent
• CISCO Certified Network Professional or a designation deemed equivalent
• SCTE DOCSIS Engineering Professional or a designation deemed equivalent
• Ability to troubleshoot network PC hardware, printers and software along with on-air and remote PC and laptop hardware and software
• Excellent understanding of the technical fundamentals of internet and IP protocols including (but not limited to) Ethernet, VLANs, Spanning Tree, IPv4, IPv6, ICMPv6, TCP, UDP, IP Multicast, IGMP, VXLAN Bridging and Routing, DHCP, DNS and TFTP
• Familiarity and ability to troubleshoot high level soft switch architecture, links connecting to upstream providers (TDM and SIP), and call flow diagnostics
• Familiarity and ability to troubleshoot IP multicast distribution of video across the network, and IP broadcast path from radio studios through to transmitters
• Knowledge of RF fundamentals as it applies to cable networks
• Knowledge of Linux and general Linux support issues
• Must be able to hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and be bondable
