Museum Assistant

Overview

Assist with the day-to-day administration , act as an interpreter of exhibits for the museum's visitors and educational programming guiding them through hands on activities . Customer service, greeting visitors, gift store sales, collect admission. General office duties, answer phones, maintain records, accept tour bookings and email requests. Assist the Summer Programming Coordinator, Lab Collects Assistant, Executive Director and Volunteers with events, programming and fundraising. Assist in all aspects of collections management. Assist with the general maintenance of grounds, buildings, displays/exhibits. Patrol buildings and grounds to monitor security. Other museum-related duties as they are assigned.

Qualifications

Must meet all eligibility requirements under the Young Canada Works Program criteria prior to an interview and is a post-secondary student returning to their studies in the fall. Those who have an interest in museums, history, education, tourism, marketing or communications would be a good candidate. Has strong computer skills ideally with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with the Past Perfect Collections Management System is an asset, however we are willing to train the ideal candidate. Excellent customer service skills, strong written and verbal communications skills, demonstrated initiative, strong organization skills and attention to detail, work independently and with a team, ability to work weekends.
