The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Director position within our Red River Métis National Heritage Centre (RRMNHC) located in Winnipeg, MB. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the Director works across MMF departments and with external partners to maintain an integrated workplan, critical-path schedule, and risk register, and to provide timely updates and briefing materials for Cabinet. The Director provides day-to-day supervision and support to RRMNHC staff and contractors including the Curator and the Program Coordinator.
Qualifications
Job Duties/Competencies:
• Lead integrated project planning and operational readiness for the 2027 opening;
• Coordinate base-building, fit-out, exhibits, and operations across departments and external partners; support scopes, RFPs, and contracts with Procurement and Legal;
• Develop pre-opening policies, procedures, and service standards;
• Oversee post-opening daily operations to deliver high-quality exhibitions, programs, and visitor services aligned with Red River Métis values;
• Support collections, exhibitions, and programming in collaboration with the Curator and Program Coordinator, and others, respecting cultural protocols and museum standards;
• Assist with budget development, tracking, variance monitoring, and grant reporting;
• Coordinate public communications through Communications and the Chief of Staff per MMF protocols;
• Supervise, coach, and support staff performance, recruitment, onboarding, and training.
Skills and Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Arts/Cultural Administration, Project Management, or related field (or equivalent experience);
• 5 years’ progressive experience in a museum, gallery, cultural/heritage, or similar public-facing institution;
• 3 years leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects with defined timelines, budgets, and deliverables;
• 2 years supervising staff or project teams;
• Experience with exhibitions, collections care, and/or public programming;
• Experience managing budgets, variance reporting, and preparing senior leadership briefings;
• Availability for occasional evening and weekend work (meetings, installations, openings, programs);
• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;
• Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
