Overview

The Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) is seeking applicants for the position of:

The Media Relations Coordinator is responsible for coordinating MFNPS media relations, public communications, and digital presence. This position serves as a key communications liaison between MFNPS’, the media, First Nation communities, partner agencies and the public.

Key Responsibilities
• Act as the primary media contact for MFNPS.
• Assist in the drafting and issuing news releases, public statements, and advisories.
• Monitor external media sources regarding information that impacts the MFNPS or communities served by our police service.
• Prepare MFNPS senior officers and designated staff for media engagements.
• Manage MFNPS social media platforms, the MFNPS website and other digital content.
• Support crisis and critical incident communications.
• Engage with MFNPS detachments, First Nation communities and partners.
• Maintain communication records and media logs.

Qualifications
• Post-secondary education in Communications, Journalism, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in policing, public safety, or Indigenous organizations would be an asset.

Skills & Abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft office applications.
• Skills in photography and video content creation.
• Able to create and maintain content for MFNPS social media platforms.
• Strong judgment, discretion, and confidentiality.
• Knowledge of Indigenous communities or willingness to learn.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.

WORK SCHEDULE:
The work schedule will be 40-hours per week with flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

SALARY & BENEFITS:
MFNPS offers competitive salary and benefits. Salaries and benefits.
Salary Range: $60,292 to $76,137.00 annually, depending on education and experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Successful Background check, Valid Class 5 license, and ability to work flexible hours.
