Overview
What You Will Do
In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of various DUC upland projects, including:
• Operating large equipment for seeding and planting activities (tractor and seed drill)
• Managing weeds via chemical and mechanical means (ATV sprayer, tractor and mower)
• Conducting prescribed burns to promote grassland productivity
• Collaborate with a team to plan and coordinate field activities, such as equipment mobilization, property inspections, fence installation, and landowner meetings
• Contribute to the maintenance of shop facilities and equipment
• Installing project signage
Depending on the location of the position, there may be times where you will be required to travel to various communities or remote areas. This position will also involve heavy lifting, physical work and outdoor work in all weather conditions. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, have flexibility with hours and travel, and be able to follow directions to execute tasks safely and efficiently without direct supervision.

Requirements
• Pursuing a career in agriculture, biology, plant ecology, environmental science or resource management
• Must have a passion for conservation, the environment and the outdoors
• Farm experience will be considered a large asset
• Valid driver’s license; some travel within Southern MB
• Experience driving manual transmission, farm tractors, ATV’s, and towing trailers
• Ability to navigate rural roads using landowner maps (legal descriptions)
• Ability to work flexible hours which may include longer days, evenings and weekends
• Comfortable working as part of a team or independently
• GIS capabilities, familiar with hand held and tractor mount GPS units
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
