leading programs in agriculture and environment, encompassing a field to fork philosophy and integrating the technology to
keep up with the evolving industry.

Reporting to the Dean, the Chairperson provides overall direction and development for current and future Academic Programs in the Agriculture and Environment programming area to faculty and students, plays a key role as a member of the School Management Team and oversees applied research within the agri-food sector of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide academic leadership for the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of programs, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy and industry needs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry, community partners, and stakeholders to support program relevance, student opportunities, and applied research initiatives.
  • Collaborate with faculty, advisory committees, and internal teams to ensure high-quality curriculum, student experiences, and successful program outcomes.
  • Lead faculty recruitment, supervision, and development, while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
  • Support student success through academic advising, recruitment, retention strategies, and engagement initiatives.
  • Oversee applied research planning, funding development, and partnership cultivation within the program area.
  • Contribute to school leadership through strategic planning, budgeting, performance monitoring, and change management initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field (or equivalent) with eligibility for P.Ag. designation in Manitoba.
  • Strong knowledge of the agricultural sector, with an understanding of emerging areas such as ag technology, horticulture, and agribusiness.
  • Proven leadership experience in post-secondary or industry, including program development, curriculum design, and faculty support.
  • Solid understanding of adult education principles, student advising, and faculty engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience in budgeting, policy interpretation, report writing, and strategic planning.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, with sound judgment in complex and evolving environments.
  • Experience supporting or leading applied research initiatives and developing external partnerships is an asset.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Organized, adaptable, and able to manage competing priorities while driving innovation and continuous improvement.
