The HVAC Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems at all Assiniboine College campuses. The role involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing equipment, optimizing system performance, and ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of HVACR equipment (including refrigerators, freezers, and equipment rooms) to ensure reliability, protect sensitive equipment, and maintain proper storage conditions.
- Collaborate with Power Engineers and use Building Management Systems and the CMMS to optimize system performance, prioritize work, and support efficient operations.
- Coordinate with College clients, trades, and contractors to schedule and complete HVACR maintenance and repairs while balancing priorities.
- Safely reclaim, handle, remove, and recycle refrigerants and equipment in compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability goals, and install replacements as required.
- Provide equipment assessments to support lifecycle planning, facility upgrades, and overall cost reduction, and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Journeyman Red Seal Refrigeration HVAC Technician certification, with a minimum Manitoba Gas Fitter’s “B” License and Limited Electrical Class M License; MOPIA certification required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience installing, servicing, and troubleshooting commercial refrigeration, heating, and air-conditioning systems and components (e.g., chillers, boilers, air handling units, heat pumps, gas equipment, commercial kitchen equipment, air compressors).
- Experience with commercial building heating and cooling systems and knowledge of control systems such as DDC, PLC, VFD, and pneumatic controls; building automation experience considered an asset.
- Strong communication, relationship-building, customer service, active listening, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required.
