The Manager, Network Operations provides leadership to Assiniboine College’s Network Services/Operations team, overseeing the planning, installation, security, and maintenance of network hardware, software, and cloud infrastructure. This hands-on leadership role involves supervising and mentoring technical staff, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements. Success in this role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, communication, and vendor management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the Network Operations team, ensuring strong performance, skill development, and effective resource use.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and professional development of technical staff.
  • Manage departmental budgets, procurement, and equipment lifecycle decisions.
  • Plan, implement, and document network and server upgrades across all College locations.
  • Ensure the security, reliability, and disaster recovery readiness of all network and server systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex network/server issues, serving as an escalation point for staff.
  • Maintain critical infrastructure such as security systems, phones, and emergency response networks.
  • Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and best practices to align with institutional and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical mentorship, training, and guidance to staff and end users.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and threats to inform future planning and innovation.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Computer Science or Network Administration, or related fields
  • 5 or more years of related leadership and technical experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of a wide variety of computer hardware and software.
  • Extensive knowledge of computer networking theory, communications protocols and interoperability standards is also essential.
  • Knowledge of how technology is applicable to and implemented in educational institutions is desirable.
  • Practical skills of implementing, installing and configuring computer hardware and software in large networks.
