ACC accepting nominations for annual alumni awards

Assiniboine Community College (ACC) is now accepting nominations for their annual alumni awards, which will be presented at the college’s upcoming Alumni Advancement Dinner.

“The Alumni Association’s board of directors are always excited when we can showcase ACC alumni – but these awards are even more special,” said Wayne Kirk, President of ACC’s Alumni Association. “The recipients of these awards are typically nominated by their peers, employers or family and it’s really gratifying to see how valued they are in their communities and work places.”

Individuals can nominate an ACC alumnus for one of three awards.

  1. Community Service Award: awarded to an alumnus of the college who has positively impacted the quality of people’s lives through service to others.
  1. Distinguished Alumni Award: awarded to an alumnus of the college who has distinguished themselves in both their chosen profession and their community.
  1. One to Watch Award: awarded to an alumnus of the college, 30 years or younger, who has demonstrated exceptional achievement and significant contribution to their profession or community.

There is also the Excellence in Teaching Award, which will be presented to a current faculty member who has made an extraordinary contribution to teaching and the student experience.

“It’s hard to only have one recipient for each category when there are so many ACC alumni throughout the province – across the country and beyond – who are doing amazing things.” said Lisa Huston, Alumni Relations Coordinator at ACC. “Our Advancement Dinner provides a venue for us to come together and celebrate all their successes.”

The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 18, 2016. For nomination forms and more information, visit www.assiniboine.net/alumniawards or email alumni@assiniboine.net.

Awards will be presented at the annual Alumni Advancement Dinner, held at the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts on the North Hill campus in March 2017. Tickets for the dinner will go on sale in January 2017.

Last year’s recipients included:

  • Distinguished Alumni Award: Clint Jensen, Director of Sales, Atlantic Region with Snyder’s Lance
  • Community Service Award: Brad Lyall, for his contributions and dedication to the Westman sports community
  • The One to Watch Award: Katelyn Rempel, who helped open Rotary Villas in Brandon, MB.
  • Excellence in Teaching Award: Dean Johnson, an instructor in the Network Administration Technology program at the college’s Brandon campus.
