ACC Cougars name two new volleyball coaches

ACC is pleased to announce two new volleyball coaches who will be joining the ACC Cougars for their 2014-15 season. Joel Small and Bryce Wilson will be coaching the men’s and women’s teams respectively.

Small hails from Brandon and brings a wealth of knowledge of the game to ACC, having played volleyball with the Brandon University Bobcats for four years while completing his Bachelor of Physical Education. During his university career, he helped coach various Brandon Volleyball Club teams and assisted in the high school system.

Small has received accolades as a Canada West All-Star twice during his time with the Bobcats and received an All-Star award from the 2009 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national volleyball championship. He played two seasons with the Canadian Men’s National Volleyball Team, where he was able to experience volleyball at the highest level while traveling around the world competing.

Wilson has over 16 years of coaching experience across middle and high school as well as club level volleyball. Wilson was the head coach for six provincial club championship teams from 2001 to 2009. He was also the head coach of the U18 Storm club team that won a national bronze medal in 2004 and the U17 national silver medalists in 2006 and 2008.

Wilson won two national volleyball championship titles as assistant coach for the U17 Storm team in 2009 and the U18 team in 2010. He also brings international experience to ACC, having been assistant coach for a club team that represented Canada in the 2010 NORCECA Junior Women’s Championship in Tijuana, Mexico and placed seventh.

Tryouts for the 2014-15 volleyball season will be held at the college’s Victoria Avenue East Campus in late September with league games starting the first week in November. Students interested in playing volleyball for ACC should email varsity@assiniboine.net.
