ACC launches redesigned website

ACC has launched its new website, a more accessible and dynamic digital presence that has been updated to better meet the changing needs of today's users. It is the fifth website in the history of the college.

“For many of our future students, the first interaction they have with ACC is through our website. It’s important that it be a positive experience right from their first click,” said Danielle Adriaansen, manager of public affairs. “We have a variety of audiences, including our partners in business, industry and government, parents and guidance counsellors, and fans of our sports teams. This site is structured for the different needs and expectations of each group.”

A responsive layout is one of the most noticeable visual improvements and was fundamental in the redevelopment project. Currently, nearly 40 per cent of all traffic to the site is on smartphone and tablets. The new website automatically scales to the size of the screen — from a four-inch phone to a 27-inch desktop — detecting the right design for the device.

Along with an entirely new look that strengthens the college’s overall visual identity, the site boasts major improvements to navigation and search functionality. Visitors can easily explore the nearly 70 programs and courses ACC offers, comparing fast facts, course offerings and application requirements.

Accessibility for all users was an essential part of the redevelopment. The website is built so that screen readers and other forms of accessibility software can easily navigate through content and provide a meaningful experience for all visitors. Progressive enhancements are made across the site, meaning visitors with slower Internet connection speeds and those with older web browsers can still access information quickly and easily.

The site was developed in partnership between the college’s Public Affairs department and Think Shift, a Winnipeg agency.
