Thank you cougars fans

A decision was made earlier today, Thursday, March 12, by the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) to cancel the 2020 National Championship Tournament. As a result, the Assiniboine Cougars women’s hockey team will no longer be in a position to defend their 2019 championship title later this month in Texas.

The ACHA’s announcement comes as an abundance of caution for the ongoing risks and challenges presented by COVID-19.

The ACHA cites that the decision was made in the best interest and safety of student athletes, teams, fans and families. The ACHA is following the lead of USA Hockey, the NHL, and other major organizations that have made this difficult decision to cancel highly anticipated sporting events. The ACHA partners with the Dallas Stars NHL team on its National Championship Tournament.

The Assiniboine Cougars women’s hockey team has had a tremendous 2019-20 season, finishing the regular season with a 31-0-0 scorecard and ranked number one in the Western Region.
