Assiniboine Community College’s Prairie Innovation Centre for Sustainable Agriculture has received $50,000 from Alternative Group in celebration of their 25 years in business.
“Alternative is proud to be able to support the community and endeavours that drive industry forward in our province,” said Chris Griffin, President of Alternative Group. “As an employer of many graduates of the college, we see first-hand the calibre of education the students receive at the college, and appreciate the opportunity to invest in the future workforce. We believe this was an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported us thus far, and help us celebrate another 25 years in business.”
Griffin noted that thanks to the tremendous work and dedication of their teams working in the various groups under their company banner, they were able to celebrate this milestone of 25 years in business.
The Prairie Innovation Centre is a one-of-a-kind Canadian college project will bring together collaborative learning spaces, applied research labs, multipurpose spaces and amenities that will serve to support new programs for labour market development, applied research and industry engagement in the agriculture, environment and processing sectors.
“We are thankful for the local industry partners like Alternative, who have come to the table to support the future of Agriculture here in Westman,” said Derrick Turner, Director, Advancement & External Relations at Assiniboine. “We know that the future of agriculture in Manitoba belongs here at Assiniboine and the outstanding support we have from local businesses will secure that future for our students.”
The college launched the Prairie Innovation Centre campaign in 2019 and has increased its fundraising goal twice, from $10 to 15 million, now nearing in on a new $20 million goal. In January, the Province of Manitoba made an initial commitment of $10 million toward design and costing.
