Be Prepared for College – Refresh Your Math and Computer Skills

Assiniboine is offering optional preparatory courses for first-year students to consider as you plan ahead for your college studies.

MATH-0110 Refresher

Having good math and good computer skills are very important for success in your program. To help build your skills Assiniboine offers the opportunity to have your current math skills assessed and provide some assistance in both Math and Computer skills, if desired, before the start of the semester.

It's simple to find out where your skills are at, simply take this self-graded math quiz and answer key. The content of the quiz is based on Manitoba’s Essentials Math courses. If you score lower than 75% on this quiz, our Assiniboine’s Math Refresher (MATH-0110) course could be just the thing to help and runs from August 4 – 21, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday. Start with basic math exercises including fractions, decimals, and word problems. From there, you’ll focus on the specific math you will encounter in the college program you’re entering. Sample tests and assessments will give you insight on the concepts that give you the most difficulty so you may focus on these areas with support from an instructor. You must have a computer and access to the internet to take this course because it will be delivered in a blended model (part online and part in-person).

Computers for College (COMP-0612)

Be prepared for online learning! This fall students will be learning through online technology for some or all of their classes. In this course, students learn computer essentials such as utilizing email, introduction to file management, researching and saving educational materials, creating and formatting documents in Word, as well as a basic understanding of PowerPoint and Excel. You will also be introduced to Moodle (the Learning Management System that Assiniboine uses for its courses) and learn how to connect and contribute to a learning session using Zoom. You must have a computer and access to the internet to take this course because it will be delivered in a blended model (part online and part in-person). This course runs August 4 – 21, 2020 from 12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Each course costs $149.00 and registrations are available by contacting the college directly at 204-725-8700 ext. 4032 or emailing Registration@assiniboine.net.
