Assiniboine and Long Plain First Nation partner to offer Office Management and Medical Administration program

Long Plain First Nation and Assiniboine Community College will be partnering once again this year to deliver Office Management and Medical Administration diploma programs in the community.

“We have a strong relationship with Long Plain, and this program allows us both to build on that,” said Assiniboine President Mark Frison.

“Assiniboine does a great deal of work every year to increase post-secondary opportunities across the province, beyond our campuses in Brandon, Dauphin and Winnipeg. Programs like this one offer people the opportunity to live and study in their home communities. It’s something both our college and Long Plain see as incredibly valuable,” Frison added.

“Once again, we are very pleased to announce our continued partnership with Assiniboine Community College on the implementation of the Office Management and Medical Administration program. True partnership and investments in education and the economy in the next generation are a big priority of the Long Plain First Nation,” said Chief Dennis Meeches.

Classes begin this Monday and run until March 2020. Depending on their chosen course specialization, students will graduate with either a diploma in Medical Administration or Office Management. The combined programs will accept up to 30 students.

Funding for this program comes from Indigenous Services Canada as part of its Post-Secondary Partnership Program. Long Plain First Nation will also offer additional financial assistance to cover tuition costs for qualified students.

This past January, Long Plain and Assiniboine announced another partnership to deliver the college’s Applied Counselling program in the community. That 20-month program started in January 2018 with the curriculum focusing on children, youth, and family counselling skills as well as cultural adaptations, Indigenous counselling, and trauma and crisis.
