Assiniboine College adult learning centres coming to Minnedosa, Neepawa

Assiniboine College is expanding adult learning, through the Centre for Adult Learning (CAL), into two new rural communities—Minnedosa and Neepawa—this fall thanks to a $367,000 investment from the Province of Manitoba.

“The college is committed to educational programming that supports training needs in rural Manitoba,” said Dr. Deanna Rexe, Vice President, Academic at Assiniboine. “We are pleased to see the Manitoba government’s investment in adult learning and look forward to the strong partnerships that will see both of these sites provide opportunities for students in these areas.”

The new Centre for Adult Learning in Neepawa is at the Neepawa Training Centre (239 Mill Street). In Minnedosa, the college will take over operations of the adult education site at Minnedosa Collegiate (74 Armitage Avenue). Both sites will open in September and will offer flexible learning options, including day and evening classes, and in-person and online study possibilities.

By investing in learning opportunities throughout the province, we're making it easier for people to access education closer to home,” said Renée Cable, Minister of Advanced Education and Training. “Whether you're returning to school, upgrading your skills, or exploring a new path, we want you to know that we're here to support you every step of the way.”

• Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. (Minnedosa)
• Tuesday, August 18 at 6 p.m. (Neepawa)

“These new sites will allow students in these areas to better support their futures close to home,” said Karen O’Gilvie, Director of the Centre for Adult Learning at Assiniboine. “This expansion will help more adult learners in the Westman area achieve their goals and ultimately go on to continue their success in future education, further their careers and contribute to their communities.”

Adult learning centres provide opportunity for students to obtain their Grade 12 diploma, upgrade their existing high school grades, take additional high school courses to meet admission requirements for post-secondary or to support future employment. For example, those applying for Assiniboine’s Practical Nursing or Early Childhood Education programs in Neepawa in January may be able to take necessary high school courses through CAL.

Assiniboine now has centres for adult learning in Brandon, Dauphin, Minnedosa, and Neepawa and regularly delivers adult learning in community-based sites across the province, with programs this past year in Dakota Plains First Nation, Ebb and Flow First Nation, God’s Lake First Nation, Little Grand Rapids First Nation, O-Chi-Chak-Ko-Sipi First Nation, Poplar River First Nation, Rolling River First Nation and Tootinaowaziibeeng Treaty Reserve. Assiniboine’s Centre for Adult Learning is a supportive and inclusive environment dedicated to helping adult learners achieve their educational goals. The centre’s programs are designed to accommodate busy schedules and diverse learning styles, and it offers various class times and online learning options. Learners must be 19 years of age or older or have been out of high school for six months or longer.
