Assiniboine College is launching a Mechatronics Engineering Technology (Robotics and Automation) program in fall 2025.

This innovative program, developed in partnership with Siemens, will offer globally recognized certification through the Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Program (SMSCP). It will provide students with cutting-edge skills in mechanical engineering, electronics, and automation.

“We are responding to a growing demand for professionals who can design, implement and maintain mechatronics systems,” said Kevin Rogers, Academic Chair of Manufacturing and Agricultural Processing. “Assiniboine will be able to attract students interested in careers in agricultural automation, robotics, precision agriculture and ag-tech development, to give them the hands-on learning experiences we are so proud to offer.”

To support this initiative, the Anthony Matlashewski Charitable Foundation has donated $500,000 for the purchase of advanced teaching robots. The three-year diploma, unique for its focus on agriculture, will equip graduates with hands-on skills to meet the growing demand for professionals in agricultural automation, robotics, and industrial systems.

“Mechatronics is transforming agriculture, and our partnership with Siemens ensures our students are industry-ready,” said Dr. Deanna Rexe, Vice President, Academic.

The program will accommodate up to 24 students and be offered in the Len Evans Centre for Trades and Technology.
