Assiniboine College is launching a Post-LPN Bachelor of Nursing program in January 2027, thanks to an investment from the Province of Manitoba, announced in the provincial budget this spring.

The college’s Bachelor of Nursing is a part-time, online program for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in Manitoba to complete their degree to become Registered Nurses. The program is designed to allow students to continue working as LPNs while they pursue their degree.

“It’s important that the program provide a flexible and accessible pathway for LPNs, particularly in rural and remote communities, to earn a degree while continuing to contribute to Manitoba’s healthcare system. They don’t need to leave their job nor relocate from their community,” said Dr. Deanna Rexe, Vice President, Academic at Assiniboine. “This program provides an innovative solution to Manitoba’s nursing shortage. It is tailored to meet the unique needs of Manitoba’s LPNs and considers their diverse life stages, professional commitments and varied geographic locations across the province.”

Applications for the program are now open. Those interested in learning more should register to attend an online information session at assiniboine.net/infosessions:

  • Wednesday, November 4 at 4 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 19 at 12 p.m.
  • Monday, December 7 at 6 p.m.

“Providing a pathway for LPNs to become RNs is an important part of our government’s plan to strengthen healthcare across the province. We are proud to provide funding and support for Assiniboine to expand healthcare education in Manitoba and train more registered nurses throughout the province,” said Renée Cable, Minister of Advanced Education and Training. “Allowing LPNs to continue to work while pursuing their degree is an important piece of the puzzle. This not only increases access for LPNs hoping to pursue a degree, but it also ensures the nurses working in Manitoba’s healthcare system can continue to do so, even while they further their education.”
