In fall 2021, Assiniboine will offer its two-year Social Service Worker diploma program at the Parkland campus in Dauphin.

“With this diploma in high demand, we are happy to give those in the parkland region the opportunity to receive training in this area,” said Karen Hargreaves, Dean, School of Health and Human Services. “Those interested in studying in the Parkland region who want to build their skills and training in addressing existing and emerging social challenges are encouraged to apply to study with this Parkland cohort.”

This college will offer this one-time Social Service Worker program in Parkland to begin September 2021 with space for 25 students. The Social Service Worker program is an identified item in the Parkland Campus Plan.

“This is a great addition to the Parkland campus for 2021,” said Gabe Mercier, Director, Parkland campus. “Any time we can offer a new opportunity in Parkland is quite meaningful and having graduates of the Social Service Worker program in this region will be beneficial to the local service agencies.”

Social Service Worker students will gain experience in developing strategies and programs to proactively address social challenges, including poverty, addiction, abuse and mental health issues. The program prepares graduates to work on the front lines of social services agencies, including community health centres, justice services, care facilities, social service departments, schools and a variety of mental health services.

This Social Service Worker cohort adds to a group of recent new offerings at the Parkland campus and within the region, including a six-month Applied Electrical Installation certificate and an 11-week Youth Transition program.
