With the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) 2020-21 season gearing up for September, details of which are still being confirmed. The Assiniboine Cougars Women’s Volleyball team has added local standout Jayde Hansen-Young to the line-up for the upcoming season.

Jayde Hansen-Young, a four year honor roll student from Vincent Massey will be joining the Cougars as a dynamic outside hitter. Jayde was a member of Club West volleyball program and was named a MHSA 2019 Graduating All-Star.

Her love for volleyball started early and came from weekends with her family and watching older family members play and coach, until eventually, it was her turn.

The enticement to the Cougars’ for Hansen-Young was being able to join the established program and the sense of community, which our Cougars are renowned for.

“I had met people who played for the Cougars and they all said it was a great program, plus it’s also close to home,” expressed Hansen-Young.

With a strong foundation of the game, Hansen-Young is looking forward to bring new energy and positivity to the Cougars team.

“I feel I am a positive influence on the court and am used to being the loud, vocal one,” said Hansen-Young.

Cougars Volleyball Head Coach Jeff Maxwell explained that over the past few seasons Jayde had caught recruiters’ eyes as a well-rounded left-side hitter.

“We have been able to watch Jayde play club volleyball at a high level for a number of years because she played up an age class. She is a very athletic outside hitter and I believe Jayde will have an immediate impact on our program.”

Jayde has been accepted in the Health Care Aide program at Assiniboine Community College for the 2020-21 academic year and hopes to continue into Nursing.
