After watching the women’s volleyball progress over the last few years, Dakota Burton made the easy decision to sign with the Cougars for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

Left side Burton comes from Erickson, Manitoba where in the off-season she enjoys song writing and singing. Burton attends Erickson Collegiate Institute where unfortunately, her high school season was cut way to short for her liking, but that only drives the urge to get back on the court come September.

“I am most looking forward to being on the court in an environment where I will learn from both strong coaches and players,” said Burton.

Head Coach Jeff Maxwell praises Burton’s very competitive nature and strong ball control skills and looks forward to her future success with the Cougars.

“If she had been able to play high school volleyball this year her coach feels she would have been one of the top players in her division,” said Maxwell.

Burton started playing the sport at a young age, once she had the opportunity to join a local club team she knew that was it. “My love for the sport, and my teams is why I continue to play” said Burton. “I push myself to achieve my goals and I work hard to be the best that I can be.”

Achievements off the court for Dakota involve volunteering at the Erickson Home Care Building as well as the local event, Little Valley Jamboree. Even with a full schedule she has remained in high academic standing throughout her last two years of high school.

After growing up on a farm, Dakota expressed that falling in love with the art of agricultural production made the choice too easy to enroll in the college’s Agribusiness program in the fall.
