Jensen Shearer is the most recent recruit for the 2021-22 Cougar women’s hockey team. She hails from Wawanesa, MB, where she played defense for the Westman Wildcats. Shearer helped the Wildcats bring home the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League Championship in 2018-19 and was further selected to the Under 16 Manitoba Top 100 Hockey Camp. A 5’7, lefty, she amassed one goal and three assists in just five games before the 2020 hockey season was shut down due to COVID restrictions.

“I’ve heard numerous great things about the hockey program,” says Shearer. “I am excited to be a part of a strong program that is close to home… and to play with new teammates that I have previously known as opponents on the ice!”

Shearer comes from a hockey family, where everyone plays the game. She has spent some paying it forward, inspiring and helping young girls learn the game.

“We are thrilled to have Jensen join our Cougar family next season,” says Head Coach Tony Bertone. “She’s able to read and react in all zones, and to jump in from the point to get shots on net, which is so valuable and will really help us out.”

During her time in high school, Shearer has maintained her status on the Wawanesa School honour roll. Shearer will be taking the college’s Business Administration program this fall.
