Assiniboine Cougars Hockey adds Yellowhead Chief

BRANDON, MB (Feb 27, 2017) — The Assiniboine Cougars women’s hockey team has strengthened their recruiting class for the 2017-18 American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) season with the addition of Karli Frederick.

Frederick hails from Elkhorn, Manitoba and plays for the Yellowhead Chiefs in the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League (MFMHL). Frederick is an offensive threat for the Chiefs this season as a strong skater with a natural ability to play the game. She has good game sense and is able to recognize and react quickly to changing situations on the ice, playing a full 200-foot game in support for her teammates. Frederick is the first Yellowhead Chief to commit to ACC for next season.

“We’re excited to have Karli join our roster as we aim to move up the standings in the ACHA’s competitive Western Region,” says Cougars Head Coach Terry Arksey. “We’re confident in Karli’s ability to make the jump to college hockey and bring her offensive abilities to the rink each game.”

“My last three years as a Yellowhead Chief have been memorable,” says Frederick. “I’m now looking forward to continuing playing hockey at the college level with the Cougars.”

Frederick is an academic honour roll student and was named the top female athlete grade five through eight (2010-2013) at Elkhorn School and in grade six (2011) received the top divisional female athlete award for Fort la Boss School Division. Aside from hockey, she plays softball, golf and enjoys farming. She will be taking the college’s Agribusiness program starting September 2017.
