Cougars Recap Can-Am College Cup

Cougars won against the Minot State University Beavers, split games against the junior team, Polar Ice and lost to the Lakehead University Thunderwolves in the first Can-Am College Cup.

Cougars hockey hosted the first Can-Am Colleg Cup over the Remembrance Day long weekend. The Cougars dropped their opener versus Manitoba Junior team the Polar Ice 2-1. Karissa Haney scored the lone goal assisted by Kassidy Sjostrand. Litesha Spittal and Lorice Pilling shared the net for the Cougars.

The Lakehead University Thunderwolves breezed by the Minot State Beavers Friday night. The final score was 6-1 for the wolves.

Saturday morning the Cougars played the Minot State University Beavers. The Cougars won 3-1 with goals from Kassidy Sjostrand, Alyssa Neufeld and Mackenzie Bortis. Lindsay Michiels, Brooke Drummond, Amy Weightman , Emma Coulter and Kassidy Sjostrand each added assists with Litesha Spittal and Lorice Pilling sharing the net.

The Polar Ice beat the Lakehead University Thunderwolves 3-1 Saturday morning.

Saturday night the Polar Ice continued their winning streak and took the title of the first Can-Am College Cup after going 3-0 in round robin and winning against the Minot State University Beavers 6-0.

The Cougars ended the night against the Lakehead University Thunderwolves. The Wolves got an early 3-0 lead in the first period. Simone Turner-Cummer scored the lone goal for the Cougars in the second period but the Wolves took the game 4-1. Litesha Spittal was in net for the Cougars.

Sunday morning the Lakehead University Thunderwolves beat the Minot State University Beavers 6-2.

The Cougars played the Polar Ice in final Can-Am action on Sunday. With Spittal and Pilling splitting the responsibilities in net, the Cougars won 3-1 in a true team effort: Lindsay Michiels (1G, 1A), Simone Turner-Cummer (1G) , Kaelei RInk (1G, 3A), Karissa Haney (1A), Alyssa Neufeld (1A).

Cougars hockey head to Minot, ND to play the Beavers again December 10th and 11th in American Collegiate Hockey Association action.
