Cougars take silver at 2016 Western Shield

The ACC Cougars women's hockey team had a strong showing at this year's Western Shield Championship in Kamloops, bringing home silver.

The Cougars felt good about their chances heading into the gold medal game with a record of 2-1-1. The first loss came against the Kamloops Vibe in round robin and the final was redemption for the loss and going back to two years ago where the teams squared off in the same match up in the final and the Vibe won the title.

During the first period, the crowd was engaged and cheering for both teams as they went out onto the ice. Both teams had chances in the first twenty minutes of play but the Vibe took advantage of the home ice as they score leading 1-0 heading into the second period of play.

The Cougars struggled to find any rhythm in the second and the Vibe came out blazing, controlling the ice. The Cougars held on and their defense managed to hold the Vibe back from scoring again.

Kamloops sealed the win with their second goal of the game at the 19:30 mark in the final period of play.

This is the Cougars second silver medal in the last three years after winning gold in 2015.
