Cougars’ Volleyball Keeps Moving Forward With Recruits

The Assiniboine Cougars Women’s Volleyball team were fortunate to finish off their 2019-20 season prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, and are now focused on the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) 2020-21 season, details of which are still being confirmed.

The Cougars Volleyball program is thinking about September with the signing of two new recruits, Gina Musgrave and Alexa Nepinak.

Musgrave is a six-foot middle and multi-sport athlete from McCreary, Manitoba. She has spent the last few seasons serving as the team’s captain for her volleyball, soccer and hockey team.

The draw to the Cougar’s for Musgrave was the strong foundation the team has established and what the program stands for.

“A big factor influencing my decision to become part of the Cougars Athletic Program is based on the character, the support from teammates, the competition, the commitment to the team and the excellence that will come from working hard in those areas” said Musgrave.

Alexa Nepinak, a Brandon local who played for the Westman Volleyball Club will also be joining the Cougars this upcoming season in the form of a backrow specialist.

Nepinak has impressed Cougars Volleyball Head Coach Jeff Maxwell over the years, growing as a confident Libero.

“I was able to watch Alexa play throughout her high school career and club volleyball. I was always impressed with her footwork and volleyball IQ. I believe a top level libero is one of the most important positions in volleyball and we believe Alexa will fill that role for us.”

“I’ve have a ton of coaches and I’m most excited to see how Jeff Maxwell can help me take the next step in my competiveness,” expressed Nepinak.

Alexa has been accepted in the Medical Administration program at Assiniboine Community College for the 2020-21 academic year, while Musgrave is enrolled in the Office Skills program.
