BRANDON, Man. (February 19, 2020) — The Assiniboine Cougars women’s volleyball team continues to build momentum for the upcoming 2020-21 season with two new additions, Alyssa McCutcheon and Hayley Ryznar.

McCutcheon is a 5’9” graduating all-star setter that competed for Strathclair Community School and has been apart of the Cougars Club Volleyball program.

“I am very excited to play for the Cougars in the 20/21 season,” said McCutcheon. “As an athlete I am always looking to improve and better my abilities. I feel this is going to be an excellent opportunity for me.”

“She is one of the strongest setters in Westman and we are excited to have her join our program” says head coach Jeff Maxwell. “We have been watching her progress over the last three years and feel she is going to be an asset to Cougars’ volleyball.”

Ryznar joins the squad also as a member from the Cougars Club Volleyball program. She is a 5’6” Erickson Collegiate graduate that was a 2020 grad all-star.

“My love for volleyball has allowed me to meet new people and develop teamwork skills” said Ryznar. “I have learned that it’s not always about winning and that when you are down by a couple points it’s very important to stay mentally strong and focused.”

Both recruits expressed that the smaller campus was a definite draw along with having the opportunity to compete close to home. Ryznar says that smaller class sizes will allow for an easier transition into her new post-secondary adventure.

McCutcheon will be enrolled in the college’s Land and Water Management, while Ryznar will be enrolled in legal administration program both starting in the fall.
