Cougars Weekend Re-Cap: Women's hockey sweeps Wisconsin

This past weekend both futsal teams and the women’s hockey team were in action. The men’s and women’s futsal teams hosted their cross-town rivals the Brandon University Bobcats Friday, February 9, while the women’s hockey team was down in Wisconsin for three league games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

This past weekend both futsal teams and the women’s hockey team were in action. The men’s and women’s futsal teams hosted their cross-town rivals the Brandon University Bobcats Friday, February 9, while the women’s hockey team was down in Wisconsin for three league games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The men’s futsal game kicked off at 6 p.m. The Bobcats took control of the first half of play and lead 3-0 at halftime. The Cougars bounced back and both teams traded goals in the second half, but the Bobcats hung on to win 6-4.

The women’s game followed at 7:30 p.m. and had a similar story in the first half of play with the Bobcats leading 3-0 at the half. The Cougars held them to that and there were no goals in the second half, resulting in a 3-0 win for the Bobcats.

Friday night the women’s hockey game against the University of Wisconsin Stout was a late one with the puck dropping at 10:30 p.m. The Cougars handedly won 16-0. Brooklyn Elek had the shut-out.

Saturday, February 10 the Cougars took on the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire at 7 p.m. The Cougars won 3-2 with Erin Doherty scoring in the first period, Sierra Parenteau scoring in the second, and Haylee Anderson with the goal in the third period for the win. Shots on net were 25-22 for the Cougars with Brooklyn Elek in net.

Sunday morning the Cougars and the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire had a re-match at 9 a.m. The Cougars won 6-1. Shots on net were 27-25 for Eau Claire, and Brooklyn Elek was in net. Sierra Parenteau scored twice, while Mariah McCue, Erin Doherty, Alyssa Alderson, and Alyssa Neufeld all chipped in singles.


Next weekend all the Cougars teams will be back in action with the men’s and women’s volleyball teams heading to Winnipeg to take on the Red River Rebels for their last regular season games on Friday (men at 6 p.m. and women at 7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (men at 12 noon and women at 1:30 p.m.). On Saturday, February 17, the men’s and women’s futsal teams will host the Red River College Rebels (men at 11 a.m. and women at 12:30 p.m.) and the Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges (men at 3 p.m. and women at 4:30 p.m.), while the women’s hockey team heads to Duluth, Minnesota to take on the University of Minnesota Duluth Saturday and Sunday.
